Navagio Beach, often called Shipwreck Beach, sits on the western coast of Zakynthos island and offers one of the most dramatic coastal views in Greece. Towering limestone cliffs surround a small stretch of golden sand where the famous rusty shipwreck rests right in the middle. The beach got its name from the ship called MV Panagiotis that ran aground here in 1980 during a storm. If you prefer a quicker visit you can drive to the cliff-top viewpoint which offers the iconic overhead perspective. There is a small parking area there and a short walk to the edge of the cliffs. No roads lead down to the beach itself so swimming or boating remains the only way to actually step on the sand.

The ideal period to visit Navagio Beach is from late May to early October when the weather is warm and the sea is calm enough for boat trips. June and September are especially good because there are fewer crowds than in July and August. Mornings tend to have better light and calmer waters while afternoons can get windier which sometimes affects boat access.

Many visitors suggest taking a boat tour early in the morning to avoid the largest crowds and to enjoy better swimming conditions. The water near the shipwreck can be quite deep so its better to be a confident swimmer if you plan to go close to the wreck.
